Lancaster City-Circa 2006

Deserted Island albums, this one makes my list.

Dear Science” came out in 2008. I’m not even sure who had recommended this gem to me, but I am so very grateful because it is freakin’ superb.

“Dear Science, please start solving problems and curing diseases or shut the fuck up”-David Sitek (Producer of the album).

Their bassist, Gerard Smith, passed away in April of 2011 from lung cancer. Tunde Adebimpe (vocals) had found him performing on the street, and impressed-invited him to join the band. He was a self taught musician of piano, bass, organ, classical guitar and sitar. Gerard also studied fine arts at FIT. RIP, Gerard ❤

TV on the Radio has a way of making music so perfectly, with just enough experimentation to make something new an interesting, but still palatable (Stop it grammar nazis… I like run-on sentences). And these lyrics!

Track 5- “Golden Age” (and this music video is hilarious and magical)

Heart beat sounding
Ricocheting in their cage
Thought I’d lose my balance
With the grounds bounce and sway
And all this violence
And all this goes away
And the vibes that rise like
Fireflies illuminate our play

Track 6- “Family Tree”. (beautifully bittersweet song about an interracial relationship)

Were laying in the shadow of your family tree
Your haunted heart and me
Brought down by an old idea whose time has come
And in the shadow of the gallows of your family tree
There’s a hundred hearts soar free
Pumping blood to the roots of evil to keep it young

Track 10- “DLZ” (deals-American capitalism)

You force your fire then you falsify your deeds
Your methods dot the disconnect from all your creeds
And fortune strives to fill the vacuum that it feeds
But this is beginning to feel like the dog’s lost the lead

Substance. This album is not only enjoyable to listen to, but it has substance! I can’t wait to hear their latest album “Seeds”.

P.s. Tunde (Vocals) also stars in an awesome indie film called “Jump Tomorrow” Watch it. You will not be disappointed.

Farewell! Enjoy your weekend! I know I will 🙂
