Day 214. “X & Y” by Coldplay

When my Dad told me I could design the upstairs bathroom….

Day 214. “X & Y” by Coldplay

There are two things that always come to mind when I hear Coldplay….”I love you man” and my Dad (because he bought me my first Coldplay album) 🙂

You can make fun all you want, but I still love Coldplay…and this album always brings a tear to my eye.

Especially this one..

Track 4- “Fix You”

he sings:

When you try your best, but you don’t succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can’t sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can’t replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

And high up above or down below
When you’re too in love to let it go
But if you never try you’ll never know
Just what you’re worth

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tears stream down your face
When you lose something you cannot replace
Tears stream down your face and I
Tears stream down your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down your face and I

Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you

Tomorrow: “Funeral” by Arcade Fire

Day 213. “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac

❤ Dad

Day 213. “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac

It’s been a rough week… but, thankfully I have my Dad’s great taste in music to keep me going. ❤

I could probably write a lot about this album, but I am experiencing writer’s block…otherwise known as laziness.

Tomorrow: “X & Y” by Coldplay

Day 211. “Helplessness Blues” by Fleet Foxes

Big Sur, 2014

Day 211. “Helplessness Blues” by Fleet Foxes

Another beautiful and rich album by Fleet Foxes. I remember having a conversation with a stranger regarding this album. He had shared with me his memories of their live performances. I would still love to see them some day. Hopefully the rumours are true, and they will be getting back together!

Track 6- “Helplessness Blues”

he sings:

If I had an orchard, I’d work till I’m raw
If I had an orchard, I’d work till I’m sore
And you would wait tables and soon run the store

Gold hair in the sunlight, my light in the dawn
If I had an orchard, I’d work till I’m sore
If I had an orchard, I’d work till I’m sore
Someday I’ll be like the man on the screen

Tomorrow: “Songs for Silverman” by Ben Folds

Day 209. “Seeds” by TV On the Radio

Salt Creek Beach, Laguna Niguel

Day 209. “Seeds” by TV On the Radio

Track 11- “Trouble”

he sings:

But I know now, yeah, yeah, I know now, yeah

Everything’s gonna be okay
Oh, I keep telling myself, “Don’t worry, be happy”
Oh, you keep telling yourself, “Everything’s gonna be okay”
Oh, I keep telling myself, “Don’t worry, be happy”
Oh, you keep telling yourself, “Everything’s gonna be okay”

Day 208. “99 Cents” by Santigold

Make Art/Not Waste

Day 208. “99 Cents” by Santigold

I love this album! Santi White (Santigold) has a slew of different musical influences which is what makes her music so fun to listen to. I had no problem listening to this album over and over again today.

To me, “99 Cents” incompasses pop-culture and materialism, but it also brings up the way that we brand ourselves to others. Confidence and identity!

I dig it.

So tell me dear, what’s it gonna be? Cuz I got boys around the world who be lovin’ me.

Tomorrow: “Seeds” by TV On the Radio

Day 207. “iii” by Miike Snow

Thrift Store Swag.

Day 207. “iii” by Miike Snow

Jessika and I are great “fwends“, and room-mates. We also like to show off our dance skills to Genghis Khan.

Fun album 🙂 Didn’t get the best of reviews, but I enjoyed it! Swedish Indie-pop? That’s a thing. I dig it.

Also, I really like this song:

Track 10- “Longshot (7 nights)

he sings:

I, I know you been needing time to set aside
You found a party each and every night
See it in your eyes
You’re running out of time
I see you fake but you can’t take the ticking

Oh girl, your chasing thrills are
Known through most the world
Why do you stay up all night
Cause you heard its the way to be
I can stay on leave
I’m ready now
As long as you’re willing

7 nights up all night
7 night you feel alright
Cause 7 nights is a good time
Until the stars are gone
I don’t wanna chase the fame
And have everybody know my name

I’m an old man now look at me
Just go go on forget me
It’s always been a long shot
I said it’s always been a long shot

Ooh you been there [?]
There’s always one more situation to cover
Do you really love it
Do you really love it
It’s always been a longshot

Tomorrow: “99 Cents” by Santigold

Day 206. “Blonde” by Frank Ocean

Lake Merrit, Oakland. Illuminated installations!

Day 206. “Blonde” by Frank Ocean

A rainy monday. Perfect timing to finally explore the new Frank Ocean album. Sure glad I did, as it is just as beautiful as I expected it to be.

Track 1- “Nikes”

he raps:

We’ll let you guys prophesy
We gon’ see the future first
Living so the last night feels like a past life
Speaking of the, don’t know what got into people
Devil be possessin homies
Demons try to body jump

Track 2- “Ivy”

he sings:

We’ll never be those kids again
We’d drive to Syd’s, had the X6 back then
Back then
No matter what I did
My waves wouldn’t dip back then
Everything sucked back then
We were friends

Track 3- “Pink + White”

he sings:

Cannon ball off the porch side
Older kids trying off the roof
Just the same way you showed me (you showed)
If you could die and come back to life
Up for air from the swimming pool
You kneel down to the dry land
Kiss the Earth that birthed you
Gave you tools just to stay alive
And make it up when the sun is ruined

Track 5-“Solo”

he sings:

We too loud in public then police turned down the function
Now we outside and the timing’s perfect
Forgot to tell you, gotta tell you how much I vibe with you
And we don’t gotta be solo

Track 6- “Skyline to”

he sings:

Sunrising, sand, comes a morning, haunting us with the beams
So it ain’t as far as it used to be
It begins to blur, we get older (Blur!)
Summer’s not as long as it used to be
Everyday counts like crazy (Smoke, hazy)

Track 7- “Self Control”

he sings:

Now and then you miss it, sounds make you cry
Some nights you dance with tears in your eyes
I came to visit cause you see me like a UFO
That’s like never cause I made you use your self control
And you made me lose my self control, my self control

Track 9-“Nights”

he sings:

My whole body see through
Transportation, handmade
And I know it better than most people
I don’t trust them anyways

Track 11- “Pretty Sweet”

he sings:

Head bang with my four friends
We pour taste out for the dead
This is the blood, the body, the life right now
The hype right now
Might be what I need

Track 14- “White Ferrari”

he sings:

One too many years
So taste what I lived on a facelift
Mind over matter is magic
I do magic
If you think about it it’s over in no time the best life

Track 15- “Seigfried”

he sings:

The markings on your surface
Your speckled face
Flawed crystals hang from your ears
I couldn’t gauge your fears
I can’t relate to my peers
I’d rather live outside
I’d rather chip my pride than lose my mind out here
Maybe I’m a fool
Maybe I should move
And settle, two kids and a swimming pool
I’m not brave (brave)
I’m not brave

Track 17- “Futura Free”

he sings:

How far is a light year?

Tomorrow: “iii” by Miike Snow

Day 205. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson

Lydia & I..sisters!

Day 205. “Thriller” by Michael Jackson

Lydia is getting married today…what better way to celebrate than a Michael Jackson album. Why you ask? Well, I believe I did mention before about playing dress-up and raiding my grandmother’s closet for the perfect outfits. One of our favorites was a multi-colored rainbow sequin top with thick shoulder pads. This was our Michael Jackson costume, and it was perfect.

Also, the first time my family came to visit me in California we were sitting at the beach…and discovered that he had died. R.I.P. Michael. Thanks for having an influence on our eccentric creativity.

Also, I love this song:
