Valentine’s Day Series-2011

 “Curtis!” by Curtis Mayfield

Being as it is election season…and this album being very politically charged, I chose this painting from my Valentine’s Day series. My idea behind it was a flag, and the heart being equality/peace.

Track 5- “Move On Up”

Hush now child, and don’t you cry
Your folks might understand you, by and by
Move on up, toward your destination
You may find from time to time
Complication

Bight your lip, and take a trip
Though there may be wet road ahead
And you cannot slip
So move on up for peace will find
Into the steeple of beautiful people
Where there’s only one kind

Curtis Mayfield was one of the first to bring political and social awareness to soul music. He has been compared to Martin Luther King Jr. for his efforts and contribution to the civil rights era through his music.
